This is the new home for the family tree, recipe book, and photo archiving project. This whole mess started with an idea to gather the recipes we remembered from growing up on the farm in a house full of people and chaos and compile them into a recipe book. While researching and digging through them, I was able to bring together a large hoard of pictures that stretched back to the 1920s and some as far back as the late 1800s.
Well that led me to quickly realize, who ARE some of these people?!? Grandma Freda (Lickteig) Morgan (Henry's mother) took hundreds of photos from the 1920s through the 1950s of both sides of the Rudy and Freda Morgan family. To be able to more easily put names and dates to photos I started fleshing out the family tree.
Over my winter vacation between Christmas 2024 and New Years 2025, I fleshed out the tree on the "four sides" of Henry and Mary, taking us back to Wales (Morgan), Germany (Lickteig), Ireland (Swain/Murphy) and France (Young). I have a long way to go to get even the current generations complete, but we can now trace ourselves back to four+ European countires.
I have a wall of boxes that are fairly well organized now. My early priority is the get the Rudy and Freda Morgan wedding photos done this May 2025 and the Henry and Mary Morgan wedding and annivsary photos done by September 2025. May 19, 2025 is Rudy and Freda's 100th wedding anniversary and September 2, 2025 is Mom and Dad's 75th.
What started originally as a recipe book of Mom's recipes, has morphed a little into a family recipe book. It turns out Mom didn't write down a lot of the entres that she cooked over the years. We have a lot of cookies, desserts, and her studel, but pretty light on the main dishes. So I'm asking my sibs to (re)create the recipes they remember and also include the favorites of their respective familes.Â
